Dear Bicycologists,
My attention has been drawn to your good work by two colleagues of mine in the CTC Campaigns Department, both of whom were in attendance at Climate Camp a few weeks ago.
I am writing to inquire as to whether we could work together. We have recently received a large grant from Defra to run a climate change communications project targeted at cyclists. The main thrust of our campaign will be a cinema ad due for release next summer. We also want to have a presence at events for cyclists and potential cyclists throughout summer 2007.
Our project is merely an awareness raising campaign - not a call to action. We will be producing leaflets and other materials exploring the causes of climate change and explaining some of the changes likely to occur to the English landscape (Defra is England only).
Assuming that you are going to be undertaking another tour next year we would very much like to be involved and may well be able to provide support and sponsorship in exchange for assistance with getting our messages across (I don't suppose our message will be too different from yours!).

James: this looks like a fairly good way to get a fair amount of money. Though the DEFRA thing is slightly dodgy as discussed before it looks like if we had to mention anyone it would be ctc rather than them, which makes it much less of a problem (i think). I guess we would have to ask what the exact deal would be with logos etc, but I'd be fine with CTC logos on our stuff if it came to that (it looks like thir leaflets would be good, but then presumably they *would* have defra logos on. would it then be ok for us to use them?)
My concern would be with us being a CTC sideproject. guess the issue of dependency on funding is a bigger one, but with cycling groups which appear better places to get money is sharper as there is a risk of being swallowed by larger organisation. the discussion i would want is one about how we define ourselves from CTC, and so on. would we become restricted in what we could say/do in anyway? how would it affect relationships with other groups? that stuff...Inmyfootsteps 12:48, 21 September 2006 (BST)
Wiki Development
New topic of discussion initiated by Ian who has just spent a while working out how to do clever things with wikis.
You will notice a number of changes on the wiki, not in content but in layout and formatting. For example, I have discovered an easier way to create links to pages - instead of putting the full URL of the page in single square brackets you put just the name of the page in double square brackets, eg typing [[Bicycology/Films]] will create a link like this Bicycology/Films (the reason it didn't create a link when I showed what to type is that I put it inside "nowiki" tags).
Another thing is lists of items. I see people were leaving blank lines between list of items so that they didn't all run together into a single unreadable block of text. I have discovered a better way of doing it! Just type something like this:
* Item 1 * Item 2
and you will get a nice list that looks like this:
- Item 1
- Item 2
These and all sorts of other tricks are documented on this mediawiki editing help page.
On the main Bicycology page I have added a new section near the top which lists the user names of all the people who have contributed to the Bicycology Wiki so far and they are all links to those people's User pages. I was thinking that we might want to start putting stuff specific to each of us on our User pages and these links provide an easy way for us to visit each other's pages.
Finally, after this last paragraph, I have typed ~~~~ which automatically signs and dates this entry so you can see who wrote it (me) and when (in the middle of the night) - it is recommended that people use this method to sign their contributions on talk pages.
