AktiviX started with a weekend Linux workshop for campaigners on 20th-21st September 2003 in Lancaster.

The weekend of workshops and skill sharing for activists was based around the theme of Free Software for a Free World. The weekend was aimed at all skill levels, but was particularly newbie-friendly and aimed at being empowering and encouraging.

But it also turned out it began a coming togeather of those who had been looking at issue of free software and it relationship to social change, which could lead to fruitful colaborations

At that it was also agreed to set up an email list.
